Japanese multinational conglomerate Fujifilm has shut down part of its network to investigate a potential ransomware attack.
The company, famous for its digital imaging products but also produces high-tech medical kits, including devices for rapid processing of COVID-19 tests, confirmed that its Tokyo headquarters was hit by a cyberattack on June 1.
According to a statement by the company, they are investigating “possible unauthorized access” to its server.
On becoming aware of the attack, the company took immediate action to discontinue all compromised systems.
The company has apologised to its customers and business partners for the inconvenience caused and stated that they are currently conducting an investigation to determine the extent and the scale of the issue.
For some entities, this affects all forms of communications, including emails and incoming calls, which come through the company’s network systems.
In an earlier statement, Fujifilm confirmed that the cyber-attack is preventing the company from accepting and processing orders.
